Background
Economic policy is frequently characterised by a short-term time horizon. Politicians have a preference for ad-hoc interventions into the market. These however, do not solve economic problems but instead worsen the situation.
Policy making based on principles and rules seems to fall into oblivion more and more. Against this background, the Freiburg School of Ordnungsökonomik, in its modern adaptation, can provide politics with guidelines and new ideas. This holds for the national level and even more so for the European one.
The foundation aims at applying it to today’s problems of European integration and globalisation, to transform its insights into pracitical policy options, and to raise public awareness of the importance of restricting politics to rule-based political actions.
